Christmas!!!

I love Christmas and fully believe that it really is the most important time of the year.

Christmas for me, starts the week of Thanksgiving. By the first week of December I had already put up two Christmas trees and still had one to go. Getting the tree up is the best way to get the holiday going. I then like to spend the next few weeks making decorations or acquiring them on the cheap and really let Christmas go nuts. The Dollar Store is where it is at for the goods! A pack of 50+, silver or gold or a mix of both, pipe cleaners, $1! I really went to town with these. Pipe cleaners and the movie Elf were my inspiration this Christmas. They also have ornaments galore. Get there early in the season for the best selection though, only the crap will be left for last minute shoppers.

This year was the beginning of a new era for our family Christmas tradition. We have a Christmas Eve party every year that includes all of our family cookies and breads, caroling to the sounds of my mother playing her recorder and the newest tradition, a visit from St. Nick himself! I got the idea to do this when the fam was sad that my grandfather wasn't going to be coming to the party, so I invited him to come dressed as Santa himself. To my surprise, he agreed! It was then my job to find him a costume. My gosh, Santa suits are expensive and crappy. It then dawned on me, whilst at the thrift store, praying for a suit to appear, I can make it myself! First came the red wool coat, then the fur trim and golden thread and here you have it. Father Christmas, whose friends call him St. Nick, came to visit the Christmas Eve Party to hand out Black Coal Cookies to those on the nice, naughty and mixed list.
Oh, and just to finish the story, I get distracted by that outfit, my grandpa did not show up dressed as St. Nick. He actually stopped responding to me and I still haven't heard from him. Cool. But that old scrooge sure didn't ruin the fun...

And that's not all...

  1. 1. I could not agree with you more that Christmas RULEZ! srsly, it is the BEST time of year and I cherish it.
    2. I think you should start using the phrase "decs" (as I do) when referring to Christmas and various other holiday decorations. You see, I went crazy with Christmas, thanks in part to thrift and dollar store affordability and then it multiplied into Thanksgiving/Harvesty stuff and of course I have a whole bin with Halloween- which I know is your other FAV, before I knew it I have Valentines Day crap-oops I mean decs, St. Patrick's Day, 4th of July. I CANNOT be stopped.
    3. This is really unrelated to the Holidayz talk but I have a request that you start documenting some of your outfits as I think you have some MEMORABLE ones and its time the rest of the world sees your magic. okbye.

  2. At my grandma's house I refer to the Christmas decorations as "Christmas Crap" and we also like to say "Christmas threw up all over the house". I like that throw up. As for the other holidays, you already know I am down for the Halloween but I just can't get into the other stuff. Give it time, I suppose.
On the outfit front, I am living out of a suitcase these days so my style is a bit stunted. Perhaps I could share some of my ingenious packing tips...
